Hi folks,
Non-student oldie moving to Limerick, and I'm looking for a RP group. Does the uni society accept non-students? Or are there any off-uni groups I can join?
Egor.

The society does accept members from amongst non students, we often have a few games running during the week. Would you be looking to run games or play games?

Happy to run, happy to play! Main games I run are: WHFRP (but not the stupid card game version), DnD (2nd, 3rd Ed. Got 4th but don't like it much), Shadowrun (2-4th Ed, though 4th is nice), Falkenstein (A variant of it at least), Hero System, Marvel universe, Many, many homebrew games. I'll play anything, but if you try make me play Vampire, I'll stick sharp things in you... I'm a war gamer and card gamer too, though most of my Warhammer armies are scattered to the four winds (3000 pt Lizardman army consisting of nothing but skinks was my crowning glory... nothing like a shooting phase with 400 dice), and my Magic decks are still buried in my bag from the last UK student nationals... 20 euro insurance isn't a problem at all. So where do I sign up? Any initiation rites? I'll warn you now, I'm squeemish... unless the blood isn't mine, then I'm fine Egor.

Well there's boardgames nights on monday evening, people play magic and such that night too. I like the sound of a lot of the games you're into, never played second edition DND myself. I prefer mutants and masterminds myself over marvel universe, thats the diceless one right? I found in the one campaign I played in with the Marvel system that it was a bit of a all or nothing system, though maybe it required a slightly different touch to the one the GM was using.
How do you feel about 3.5 DND? I know some people who hate it but love 3.0

Classy lads, classy. In any case, hello Egor. Non students are welcome. Your best bet to meet GSoc people would most likely be the monday night gaming in EG006. Some good taste in RPGs I must say. I don't know anyone who's run/played Castle Falkenstein.

Sweet... I'll be around from the start of 2010, so I'll dive in one Monday early on.
Love 3.0, hate 3.5... yes I'm one of those people who play clerics...
Marvel is VERY hit and miss, easy to min-max.
Back in Stirling, we had a long Falkenstein campaign (minus the magic which we felt never really fit. Played it more like Steam Punk), turning it into a drinking game? Now that takes class...
2nd Ed DnD is good but cheesy, Bards were the best class (crazy I know) so experienced PCs ended up running party after party of Bards... got v boring after a while!
Egor.

Bards are still pretty awesome, in a game one of the guys was running before Asuran's bard bluffed our way out of a fight with some nimblerights(?)... then again he did have glibness running all the time. We started as a small party so we were very very efficient with resources in that game (I provided late night upgrades for wondrous items with my cleric, for a reduced cost compared to the shopkeepers!). It all really depends on what the GM and campaign are like. They still have some worthwhile bard only spells (though beguilers do get in on the glibness fun). My first character multiclassed into bard from sorceror in a 3.0 game... it was my first character and was really skill point starved. It was a pretty odd game, the cleric stopped showing up so just wandered off early in the campaign. The GM let people make some homebrew healing potions so the party wouldn't die. My choice of a few bardic healing spells was mostly left unused. Campaigns usually go in a one or two semester sized chunks so the start of the new year is a good time to get into games. Currently I think there is a Rogue Trader, DND3.5, Fallout (Using Dark Heresy rules), WFRP. I just finished running a Mechwarrior Third Edition game but am running the DND game now. I'm fond of Clerics myself but prefer 3.5 a little though I find the differences dont matter too much to me. I'm a little curious about fourth ed and poke it with a stick occasionally but find the ability to make encounters in a tenth of the time in the older version keeps drawing me back.

4th Ed, is too much like an MMO for my liking really... Glad to here there will be some games starting up in the new year. WHFRP is my first love, but I'm dying to play some Rogue Trader (not to be confused with Rouge Trader, who you'd normally find in a bordello) Egor.

WHFRP is my first love, but I'm dying to play some Rogue Trader (not to be confused with Rouge Trader, who you'd normally find in a bordello) Egor. 3.5 clerics are still great especially with non-core sourcebooks. I've only played one session of 4th ed, but found the combat flowed very quickly. For fast dungeon action, it's a great system. Outside of that, I can't say so much. WFRP is great fun, a hilariously horrible setting. I'm finding Rogue Trader great fun to run. No idea what the story will be with spare places in the new year yet. Campaigns tend to be based around semesters in GSoc funnily enough.

I'm around! I've just been unable to come along thanks to things like struggling to find somewhere to live, and a major car crash Once things settle down, I'll be along!
