Switzerland
In July 2001 Clare and I headed for Switzerland. We were going along with a group of mountaineers who were going with the Mountaineering Council of Ireland (MCI) annual Alpine meet, but our plan was paddling. Whilst out there we met up with Niall Power, Ian Power and Jimmy Evans, all from Waterford. In the following days we saw plenty of thunderstorms with torrential rains(all good news for us, pity about the climbers) and got to do some great rivers at levels way above that which the guidebook describes as high water. Finland
Here's a nice mpg of Mike Nooney (former UCD) on the Vantaa river in Finland. This was taken as part of the Icebreak Freestyle competition held back in April, when the ice had just melted and there was big chunks of ice coming down over the falls. This clip was shown on the 9pm sports news over there.
