December, Christmas & New Years

What can I say about this time of year in the Southern Hemispere? Well, it's plain and simple strange. December doesn't feel like it's the run up to Christmas (compared to what I'm used to), there's no way I'd be walking around in shorts and a t-shirt during December in Ireland. As it feels so strange I think Christmas sneaks up on you and before you know it, it's Christmas day. Compared to home there wasn't the same hype going on about the whole festive season, there certainly wasn't as many decorations on the streets or in the shops, some shops didn't even have any decorations! One good things though is the lack of annoying Christmas music, Bing Crosby's "White Christmas" wouldn't have the same meaning here.

That's my musings, what have I been up to for the last few weeks? I've been mountain biking a few times, including doing a superman impression, I still have the scar to show from that one. I was seeing stars for a day or two afterwards.
I spent a few days in the Taranaki area doing some hiking, that was good fun. The most fun of all had to be the blackwater rafting down at Waitomo caves. There were 6 of us in the group, including Askea, Ria and Liam from home and a token American who got stuck with us. It was my first time caving and I'd certainly go again. The caving part was fun but the rafting was a little tame, no rapids! Then again it's a little water dependent for rapids.

that's it for now, another update soon.
