Fencing is a safe discipline by virtue of the quality of equipment
available. A further advantage is that the equipment is rated to the
expectations of sport fencing which places a greater emphasis on athleticism
than classical fencing.
The Limerick School of Arms operates an equipment fund; equipment is
bought for the beginner who, after finishing the beginners course, purchases
it from the club at cost. This avoids the club holding on to depreciating
stocks of equipment and entails that the beginner starts with good quality
equipment.
* Due to pressures on the equipment fund the club is no longer
able to supply all equipment for the beginners course. Beginners shall
buy their jacket and mask, available through the school, should they
find that fencing is not for them the school will buy the equipment
back off them.
Gentlemen shall be required to purchase a cup. Chest protectors shall
be acquired for ladies.
For the first class all that is required is t-shirt, tracksuit and
trainers.
