Arose early to get a 4 hr bus journey to Halong Bay. and then a boat cruise to Cat Ba Island. The whole area is Limestone ( I think) and there are a lot of small rocky islands all over the bay... some wonderful scenery... taken on the cruise to two caves on one of the islands, the first cave was very impressive but the tourist people had overdone the lighting effects with blue, red and green neon lights shining from most of the nooks and crannys, this destroyed the overall effect... the second cave was normally lit and looked much more impressive...

took a tour around the bay, and the landed on Cat Ba Island, where a bus drove us to our hotel, Cat Ba is a really nice island with a national park on it, and most people involved in fishing, the view over the harbour from the hotel was very cool, with a lot of fishing vessels situated around the harbour, most of the fishermen and their families live on their boats....
